Hawthorne Bridge in Portland, OR at 3am. The story behind this shot goes something like this:

I went out to a hip hop show downtown and met a guy that’s been around the Portland scene for awhile, as bar close was approaching they invited me out to Salmon Street Studio to continue the party.

Long story short, after an hour or so of partying and meeting new people, I figured it was about time to walk back to my place and took the Hawthorne Bridge — which was fairly empty at that point in the night. I decided it would be fun to lay down in the middle of the bridge and drunkenly snapped this shot while I was chilling out. Turned out to be a pretty awesome shot and a great night overall.

Taken while climbing over the rockslide that occurred back in 2008 or 2009. I can’t remember the exact date that we were told but the path was definitely blocked off. We just ignored the signs and walked through anyway. Definitely worth it.

I’m a little disappointed with how the clouds turned out to look so blurry on this one but I absolutely love the colors, regardless. California was a weird place, especially when it came to the landscape, but it sure made for some wicked photos. This one was taken off the side of Highway 1 somewhere in between Santa Cruz and Monetery, looking up from the beach.

Oregon Coast

This was my very first impression of Oregon as we were making the drive up from San Jose at the end of January. It was somewhere between 5 and 6 in the morning and so far on the trip we had been completely in the dark while driving on the coast. But just as the sun started to rise, a river and bridge came into view so we decided to stop for a bit and watch the sun come up.

The Future of the Androidography Community

There’s no doubt that iPhoneography is a full-blown “thing.” There are countless blogs dedicated to the activity, endless amounts of accessories and apps like Instagram have taken it to a whole other level. I myself am considering switching to an iPhone after my contract is up with Verizon and the iPhone 5 is released. A lot of it has to do with the camera and apps, but mostly it has to deal with the overall eco-system that Apple has setup. It’s unrivaled.

So what about Androidography? or Smartphoneography in general? I don’t know. There really isn’t much of a community, though maybe the Android release of Instagram will change that. The screenshot above is kind of telling about how little activity there is out there. In the past ~5 months I’ve managed to get on page 4 of Google for “Androidography” (page 8 on Yahoo!) without much overall effort, especially in terms of optimization.

I’ve started a few blogs in the past without much luck and abandoned them fairly quickly, this one however, seems to have caught on a little, mostly in the androidography realm. I’m getting 500+ visits a month and already have ~2,000 for the month of March which is pretty cool. I’m not really sure where things will go in the future, but it would be fun if I could help to form some sort of community for Android / Smartphone -ography in general.

So, for those of you that visit, what do you think? What kind of features would a site need to really help drive the community? I think some sort of reader-submission thing is needed for sure. Who knows, though, maybe Instagram (or some other app) will launch on Android in a month or so and this blog will become completely irrelevant in the overall “scene.” Or maybe, I can make an impact…
